Sand & Birch Design – Diamond Sofa

The Diamond sofa thought by Samanta Snidaro and Andrea Fino of Sand & Birch design studio is entirely realised in mirror-like aluminium. On the wide stripe 160 crystals of Swarovsky will be disposed creating images. The lamp on its side is a fluorescent or a led one.
The Diamond sofa was thought not only for sitting, but also as an object of very provocative design. It has been studied for entering houses and, at the same time, for inspiring pure luxury.
Sand & Birch is bringing forward a project in which the objects lose their proper primitive functions and acquire other meanings. In this way, the Diamond sofa becomes an expression of predominantly aesthetical value: from just a sofa it becomes a jewel.

The Diamond sofa is produced in numbered limited edition (100 sofas)

I need this..

Michael Lau’s Godfather figure is the first product from MINDstyle’s Godfather licensing deal with Paramount and also marks the debut of the toy company’s Art Toy Collectibles (ATC) line.  Here’s a look at a fully painted version of the HK vinyl pioneer’s Original edition (with marionette) of the iconic mob boss.

In looking at these pictures of the painted figure, a few key details catch our eyes – in particular,  the birth marks on the face as well as the super slick glossy paint on the shoes.  We’re true believers that attention to small details makes a big difference in the overall vibe of a toy.  These pictures are also the first reveal of the marionette apparatus which is clearly self-supporting.  The seemingly gravity defying presentation definitely adds to the overall wow factor.

The Original  edition will be released at the “Family Tradition” art exhibition curated by Ron English on Sunday, July 19th @ De La Barracuda in Hollywood and will also be available from the MINDstyle booth (#4545) @ SDCC.  MINDstyle will also release two additional colorways of the Original edition Godfather through select retailers.

Looking a little farther down the road, there will also be a Classic version and a Secret Version.  Here’s guessing that the Classic version will not have the Marionette vibe.”

I want a new camera now!

Panasonic presents the update to their popular G1 camera, which was the first camera in the Lumix range with exchangeable lenses and overall a big success. The DMC-GH1 comes packed with new features, some of which are very interesting. The camera is now also suitable for video production, as it does not only record in full HD, but also records Dolby Digital sound, which is quite impressive. The camera is now available in stores for about 1500 USD.

“Anyone who has watched the recently released movie “Watchmen” will recognize the themes behind images of fat and balding superheros in miniature photographer and artist Slinkachu’s newest show.  AM was on hand to check out the special preview of his show “Whatever Happened to the Men of Tomorrow” at Andipa Gallery last night.  The UK “street” artist, who first gained fame for his “Little People Project” (photographs of tiny models in the streets of London), named this show after Alan Moore’s similarly named book which explores what happens to Superman after he disappears from the public eye.  Once again, Slinkachu uses his humor and irony to re-interpret a concept for a successful body of work.  Take a look at all the photos as well as an awesome installation piece after the jump.”
